What a wonderful weekend! (ah, alliteration) Matt and Mel’s wedding was definitely the highlight of a nice, work-free weekend, but I just had a nice time overall. Lots of relaxation, sleeping, cuddling with puppy – always makes for an easier Monday (even on a rainy one) after such a great few days.
Matt and Mel had a beautiful ceremony and a fantastic reception. I had a great time hangin’ with the boys, who I never see anymore. We told stories, went to Durty Murphy’s, and a few of us even ended the night at IHOP. Ah, breakfast (or chicken strips, as the case may be).
I am really feeling good about my life right now. Last week was rough – long hours do not generally make for a happy me. Now, I am back on track. I am loving work again, which is a refreshing throwback to a month or two ago. I have some good things coming up, even though they are also causing me some work. I’ve got a bridal shower in a few days, but it should go very well, thanks to a lot of help from my hyper-organized mom. Not that I am anything like that (haha, yeah right).
I think listening to some really good music lately has put me into this mood. Yes, the Once soundtrack again, but also some other songs. I love soundtracks – Rent also makes me smile. I have enjoyed searching out artists – Ingrid Michaelson, Colbie Caillet, Mat Nathanson, and others. Other artists also add to my thoughts – John Legend, Mat Kearney, Gomez, Aqualung (see title of blog), etc. I tend to listen more to mellow music, often singer/songwriters. They help me focus at work and allow my thoughts to flow, whether at work or at home. That is why some of my all-time favorite artists remain Vertical Horizon, Third Eye Blind (particularly slower songs like The Background or God of Wine), and the Goo Goo Dolls. I can throw any one of those bands CDs/songs on and end up deep in thought over one thing or another.
I noticed that I tend to put a blog together with a song of some sort. In that vein, I have decided to start titling my blogs after songs – either the actual titles or lyrics. Oh, and I am nearing the end of a book, so I think I will do a review of that soon. I don’t want to copy my brother too much, so I am going to do book reviews instead of movies. I tend to read a book about every couple of weeks or so, so the review should help keep me from too much of a writer’s block.
Off to finish the last of the New Amsterdam episode I recorded tonight. If you can suspend reality and like a show with a touch of a mystery (and can tolerate some procedural), I recommend it. The main actor is very intriguing, and the premise (a man is given eternal life until he can find his one true love, the woman who will make him mortal) allows for a lot of cool flashbacks and costuming (which, really, is half the fun!). So, goodnight all (or all 2-3 people who actually read this).
